Its purpose is to get rid of the RNA template after first-strand complementary DNA (cDNA) synthesis by reverse transcription. It is an enzyme that can be found in viruses, prokaryotes, and eukaryotes, which hydrolyzes the RNA strand of a DNARNA duplex.
In order to catalyze the formation of RNA from DNA in the 5′ 3′ direction, the T7 RNA Polumerase is needed. It has been crystallized in several forms and the structures placed in the PDB is bound to the DNA transcribed to it.
